For this project, I was tasked with creating a concert poster inspired by the psychedelic style of the Fillmore Auditorium concert posters of the 1960s. The poster needed to be eye-catching in print and digital forms in order to advertise the concert and create a collectible concert poster.
Client: Cornelia (Band)
Project date: April 2024 (2 weeks)
Role: Graphic designer
Project Objectives:
Promote the concert
Create a cohesive visual identity that aligns with the band and venue’s branding
The research portion of this project involved a deep dive into the Fillmore Auditorium’s poster archives, specifically the work of Bill Graham. This style incorporates color palettes with high contrast and bold, swirling typography. The typography incorporates a fluid, distorted effect, while remaining legible. The work also features intricate, organic shapes.
Throughout the design process, feedback was sought and incorporated from the client in order to create a final design that was true to their vision and goals for the poster. From the brainstorming phase to final color palette choices and details, the poster was a collaborative effort between the designer and the client.
The final design incorporates the style of psychedelic poster art of the 1960s, while staying true to the style of the band’s branding with a contemporary and bright color palette. The informational goals of the poster have been met, by clearly displaying the band name, date, and venue legibly and in a clear hierarchy. The poster was made to appeal to the target audience by following vintage aesthetics, creating a visually striking and collectible poster.
